Change is the Only Constant

Hard to believe that it has been four years serving as President. Every moment I have spent in support of this organization was deeply worth my efforts. I have had the great pleasure of working with such amazing, big hearted people, and I will deeply miss our time together. But my time as President is ending, as my wife and I have decided to move to Mendocino. Cliff Feldheim is the incoming President.

Change is what makes life interesting and fun. Our birds are forever changing, whether it’s their seasonal location, plumage, yearly habits, etc. And this is what keeps us coming back to observe, and be part of this every changing spectacle! So too with dynamic organizations. Change is essential, and our name change is part of this. The Sacramento Bird Alliance is the same organization as the Sacramento Audubon Society, just with a different plumage.

Volunteers are the beating heart of the Sacramento Bird Alliance. For 75 years this dynamic organization has been run by passionate and dedicated volunteers. Much of their work is hidden behind the scenes. Our fabulous website, monthly birding trips, monthly speakers, event outreach, conservation projects, management of the Bobelaine Sanctuary, along with day to day operations, is all run by volunteers. If you’re reading this, consider volunteering, or ask someone you know to consider.

I truly believe the name change, along with some new, younger volunteers, will allow the organization to grow and flourish. Activities and outreach should be thoughtfully tailored to attract a younger and more diverse membership. Cliff Feldheim is a person who lives the truth underlying diversity. Ask him about this the next time you see him. He is a deeply feeling and passionate man who has my undying respect and admiration.
