May is a great month for birding, with nesting birds singing and displaying and migrants such as flycatchers and warblers arriving or passing through. Any spot along the American River Parkway should be good, but Cathie LaZier has a few specific recommendations.

The public draft of the NRMP was released March 15, 2021 and will be open for public review and comment for a 60-day period. The Department will be hosting four virtual workshops to receive public comments on the plan over March 19-26.

April is the birdiest month! The usually difficult to see wrens and towhees are sitting high and singing! Red-shouldered Hawks are loudly calling and trying out various nests, and Tree Swallows, White-breasted Nuthatches and Oak Titmice are actively investigating tree cavities.
