Young Birders Club Field Trip: Rollingwood Bluffs

This is a Young Birders Club field trip. Participation is limited to members of the Sacramento Valley Young Birders Club. Register via Slack to join the Sacramento Valley Young Birders Club on this trip. Please go to www.sacramentoaudubon.org/young-birders-club to become a member.

Come explore these open oak hills with us! The Rollingwood Bluffs are a part of a series of parks around the Folsom Lake area. What is special about this field trip is that we will be visiting at the peak of spring migration! Beautiful, brightly colored neotropical migrants will be streaming through the woods. We expect to see most of the spring warblers, from the sulky MacGillivray's to the vibrant Wilson's warbler. This site is very good for our summer flycatchers, including some of the rarer species, like Dusky and Gray Flycatchers. Last year the young birders club found a Hammond’s Flycatcher at this site. We also have high chances for other migratory birds, such as Lazuli Bunting, Warbling Vireo, Western Tanager, both Oriole species and Black-headed Grosbeak. There are also Violet-green Swallow, Rufus-crowned Sparrow, Chipping Sparrow, and Phainopepla found in the area. Please pack water, wear sunscreen, and bring snacks! Bug spray may also be necessary. We may have to descend down steep hills, but most of our walk will be on flat terrain. Overall, it will be a very exciting day!

Directions and confirmation of exact meeting location and time will be provided upon registration.
