Join us for a morning of pre-migration birding at the Lake Solano County Park, an open oak woodland next to a river in the foothills of the coastal range, just west of Winters. We will be keeping an eye out for chaparral species, including Wrentit, Phainopepla, and Blue-gray Gnatcatcher. We will be scanning the shoreline of the lake for shorebirds, such as Spotted Sandpiper, and the edge of the reeds for Sora. Roosting in canyon walls, Great Horned Owls may be present, and in the thicker wooded areas, a multitude of woodpecker species are possible, including Hairy Woodpecker, Downy Woodpecker, Nuttall’s Woodpecker, and even sometimes a Pileated Woodpecker. Lewis’s Woodpecker, Osprey, and maybe an early migrating warbler and vireo are also possibilities.
There will be restrooms. We recommend packing snacks, a hat, and applying sunscreen if necessary.
