SAS Field Trip: Hidden Falls Regional Park

This trip is not limited, but please email Peter if you expect to attend.

Field Trip Leader: Peter Perrine

Hidden Falls Regional Park is a beautiful example of oak/gray pine woodlands in the Sierra Nevada foothills. An eBird hotspot, with more than 115 bird species found here (so far), it is a very popular destination for wildlife viewing and for its scenic beauty and waterfalls. Expect to see a good variety of oak woodland and riparian birds, with early nesters displaying, migrants moving through and the usual wintering birds still in good numbers. This is a somewhat strenuous trip of about five miles, total. The first mile from the trailhead descends about 300 feet to a small stream, which of course means a one mile climb at the end of the day. Not steep but trails here can be slippery after a rain. We should be finished about noon or a bit later. Bring water and snacks, and lunch if you wish - there are picnic tables and a restroom near the parking lot.

Meet at the Hidden Falls Regional Park parking lot (38.95908419788107, -121.16411891282213). The easiest directions are from Auburn: take Atwood Road west approximately 1.8 miles to Mount Vernon Road, turn right and stay on Mount Vernon for 2.8 miles to the right turn to Hidden Falls.
