Meet at the Park and Ride at 8:00 AM or at Lynch Canyon at 9:00 AM.
Field Trip Leader: Maureen Geiger
This beautiful, 1,039-acre park just off I-80 in Solano County consists of rolling hills with native oak, buckeye and bay trees, small riparian corridors and panoramic vistas and a pond for wintering ducks, grebes and possible shorebirds. Other wintering and resident species may include Golden Eagles as well as Northern Harriers, Western Bluebirds, White-tailed Kites, hawks, woodpeckers, Hermit Thrush and California Quail. This trip involves about a 2-mile walk on a dirt trail with a little elevation gain and a bit of rough terrain and will end mid-day. This area is often colder, wetter, foggier and windier than Sacramento, so dress accordingly. There is a restroom in the parking lot.
Meet Maureen at 8:00 AM at the Davis Park and Ride on Mace Boulevard or at Lynch about 9:00. From Sacramento take I-80 west towards Davis to Mace Blvd., Exit #75; turn right (north) and then right again at the signal light to the Park & Ride lot a short distance beyond Ikeda's Market. Meet on the south side of the parking lot.
Alternatively, meet at Lynch Canyon by 9:00 AM. From Sacramento take I-80 West. After Fairfield, take Exit 39A, Red Top Road. Turn left, go under the underpass, take the second right onto McGary Road and follow for 1.8 miles (parallels I-80). Turn right on Lynch Road and enter through the gate. There is a $6 parking fee.
