Plan for a walk of up to three miles on mostly level terrain with dirt roads and mowed paths. We'll focus on finding birds and wildlife and discuss the variety of habitats on the Bufferlands. Sitting just a few feet above sea level, you'll see that much of this area is surprisingly lush. At more than 2000 acres, the Bufferlands surround the EchoWater Facility. We’ll explore restoration sites and view seasonal wetlands as we prepare them for the arrival of waterfowl later in the fall. September is one of the best times of year to view migrating songbirds, so we’ll hope to encounter a pulse of migrants in addition to the regulars. Bring binoculars and wear comfortable walking shoes or hiking boots.
