As part of the Pacific Flyway, millions of birds make their way through Sacramento and the Central Valley every year. Many of these remarkable migrations occur under the cover of darkness. Artificial lights attract and disorient migrating birds.

Recently Sacramento Audubon was contacted by Aiden, a junior at Saratoga High School and a member of the Sierra Club Loma Prieta Chapter’s Education and Environmental Legislative Action Committee. He is currently advocating for AB-38. A bill that would protect birds flying at night by reducing light pollution.

Community Meeting to Save Coyote Creek, Dec 9

On November 18, 2025, the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved the Coyote Creek Agrivoltaic Solar Project that will kill over 3000 native oak trees and destroy sensitive and increasingly rare habitat (vernal pools, valley grasslands, and one of the last continuous blue oak woodlands in California).
