SBA Field Trip: Lynch Canyon, Solano Canyon

Registration is NOT required for this field trip.

Field Trip Leader: Maureen Geiger

This 1,039-acre park just off I-80 in Solano County consists of rolling hills with stands of native oak, buckeye and bay trees, small riparian corridors, panoramic vistas and a pond for ducks, grebes and possible shorebirds. Other fall and resident birds may include Golden Eagles (which nest in this park) plus harriers, hawks, kites and woodpeckers, Western Bluebirds and California Quail. This trip involves about a two-mile walk on an easy trail and will end mid-day. The park is generally colder, wetter, foggier and windier than Sacramento, so dress   accordingly.

Meet Maureen by 8:15 in the Park and Ride off I-80 in Davis. From Sacramento, Mace Boulevard Exit #75, turn right at the light, then right again into the Park and Ride lot (entrance just past Ikeda’s) or meet at Lynch by 9:00, when the Park opens.

From Sacramento on I-80 West, after Fairfield, take Exit 39A, Red Top Road exit. Turn left under the underpass, take second right onto McGary Road (parallels I-80) and follow for 1.8 miles. Turn right on Lynch Road and enter through the gate. There is a $6 parking fee.
