Field Trip Leader: Lynne Attar
Join Lynne on a visit to this unique local park which features a winding trail through oak savannah habitat and vernal pools. We will be looking and listening for resident birds as well as spring arrivals. Yellow-billed Magpies are often seen at this park. This is a good trip for beginner birders and will be slow paced, keeping an eBird list as we go.
Once finished with Phoenix Park, for those who want to continue, we will use a cut through to get to the Middleridge Trail on the American River Parkway. The area is a rich habitat for a variety of bird species with possible sightings of Bald Eagle and California Quail.
The Phoenix park trails are mostly flat, with a mix of paved and unpaved sections. The Middleridge Trail is mostly packed dirt trails with some cobblestones and will include some up and downhill segments.
We are expecting to travel no more than 3 miles. This trip will happen rain (light to moderate) or shine, but heavy rain, wind, and flooding will cancel. If you are unsure, please contact Lynne to confirm the trip is happening the day before.
Directions and confirmation of exact meeting location and time will be provided upon registration.
