This pond and its islands host a variety of resident species as well as migrants and is particularly well known for surprising numbers of Blue-winged Teal present even in summer. Join Maureen for close looks at the birds on the Pond, the islands and marshy edges, and the east edge of the Yolo Causeway from atop the levee. This trip will last 2-3 hours and involve walking a level pathway of less than a mile, birding from the levee, and looping back. Scopes will be a valuable asset. There are no restroom facilities.

From downtown Sacramento, drive west on Hwy. 50 over the Sacramento River; in West Sacramento, take the Jefferson Boulevard exit and drive south to Lake Washington Boulevard. Turn right, then left onto Southport Parkway. At 2.8 miles, turn right on Oakland Bay Drive, an immediate right onto Bowen Island Street, left on Solomon Island Road and right on Pender Island Road. Park at the end of the cul-de-sac or on a residential street.
