Field Trip Leader: Rachael Cowan
Join Rachael at Ancil Hoffman Park to view the return of overwintering birds. We will walk through the open field to look for sparrows and pipits and loop around the golf course with a couple of side trips down to the river to observe waterfowl and shorebirds. Then we will walk through the Effie Yeaw nature study area to see how many woodpecker species we can find. This walk is approximately 3 miles with some up and down slopes and uneven footing. Wear comfortable shoes and you may want to bring water or snacks. We’ll end the trip by noon. A Sac County Park Pass, or $7 entry fee is required for all vehicles.
Meeting Location: Meet Rachael at the Effie Yeaw parking lot. Ancil Hoffman Park is located in Carmichael.
Directions: From U.S. Highway 50, take the Watt Avenue off-ramp. Head north to Fair Oaks Blvd. and turn right. Follow Fair Oaks Blvd. to Van Alstine and turn right. Turn left onto California Ave, then right on Tarshes at the park entrance. After you pay for parking at the self-pay station in the first lot, return to Tarshes and continue on to a three-way stop and turn left on San Lorenzo Way. The Effie Yeaw parking lot is down the road on the right.
