SAS Field Trip: Ancil Hoffman Park

Registration is NOT required for this field trip.

Field Trip Leader: Rachael Cowan

Join Rachael at Ancil Hoffman Park to look for overwintering birds. We will walk through the open field to look for sparrows and pipits and loop around the golf course with a couple of side trips down to the river to observe waterfowl and shorebirds. Then we will walk through the Effie Yeaw nature study area to see how many woodpecker species we can find. This walk is approximately 3 miles with some up and down slopes and uneven footing, and possibly muddy conditions. Wear comfortable shoes, and you may want to bring water or snacks. We’ll end the trip by noon. A Sac County Park Pass or $7 entry fee is required for all vehicles.

Meeting Location: Meet Rachael at the Effie Yeaw Nature Center parking lot. Ancil Hoffman Park is located in Carmichael.

Directions: From U.S. Highway 50, take the Watt Avenue off-ramp. Head north to Fair Oaks Blvd. and turn right. Follow Fair Oaks Blvd. to Van Alstine and turn right. Turn left onto California Ave, then right on Tarshes at the park entrance. After you pay for parking at the self-pay station in the first lot, return to Tarshes and continue on to a three-way stop and turn right on San Lorenzo Way. The Effie Yeaw parking lot is down the road on the right.
