The Sacramento Valley is in the Great Pacific Flyway which is the bird migration route from Alaska to Mexico. In Sacramento you can see about 250 species of birds. Trips organized by the Sacramento Audubon Society go north to Sacramento Wildlife Refuge, east to the Sierra foothills & mountains, south to the San Joaquin River delta, and west to the Pacific Ocean (see map). In this region, one can see up to 400 species of birds. You can enjoy seeing this great variety of birds whether you go birding on your own or join us for half-day, full-day, or 2-day trips. We invite you to become a member of the Society and help in conservation and preservation efforts. We also encourage donations to support the various programs of the Society.
You can become a member of the National Audubon Society and/or the Sacramento Audubon Society. Each Society has monthly magazine or newsletter. Local membership dues and donations are used strictly for local programs. To volunteer for helping in any local program, please email us.

"Birding in the Sacramento Region"
Good news for those who are interested in birds of the Sacramento Area. For the first time in 10 years, Sacramento Audubon has released a new version of "Birding in the Sacramento Region." This, the fourth edition of this booklet, is almost 200 pages long, lists over 110 sites in the Sacramento area (including maps of all sites). Areas covered include American River Parkway, City of Sacramento, County of Sacramento, Folsom Lake Area, and selected sites in Yolo County, North of Sacramento, San Joaquin County, Solano County, and Foothills & Sierra Nevada. Includes concise descriptions of where and when to find resident, wintering and migrating birds at these sites. Of value to beginning as well as serious birders, the guide can be purchased at general meetings of the Sacramento Audubon Society for only $10 (including tax). It is also available at Effie Yeaw Nature Center, Wild Bird & Gardens at Madison & Fair Oaks, Wild Birds Unlimited at Loehman's Plaza, and The Naturalist in Davis.
