Alphabetical list

Exotics

Exotic Birds

There are some birds that are seen around Sacramento area that are not in the official checklist.
An exotic species is a non-native species either intentionally or accidentally introduced.  Some species, like the European Startling are introduced species that are considered part of the regular bird list because they have a self-sustaining breeding population.  To make its way onto the official California or Sacramemto list, a species needs to be established for a number of years and thought to have a self-sustaining population in the wild.  So the exotics consist of species seen but not established in the wild.

Exotic waterfowl  - Mute Swan, Greylag Goose, Chinese Goose, Muscovy Duck, Mandarin Duck, variant Mallards

Exotic birds  -
Chukar, Common Peafowl, Budgerigar, Cockatiel, any other parrot.
